In-game email

Just a reminder to one and all, your in-game email is automatically populated with the starlords that you meet in the game, as you meet them. To see your email, go to the War Room screen, click on the Player List button and you will see a button on the lower left - Check Mail. This will take you directly to you email.

A short cut is to click on a world owner's name, which will bring up a Player Screen for that starlord. There is a Send Message button on this screen that also accesses the email. The Player List is also accessible from this screen and Character Reference.

We have some improvements in the works on notifying you when you have messages in your mailbox. We'll let you know as they are available.

Question- How do we address messages to other Starlords that we meet?

I've tried u15-name, I've tried just the name...

Thank you.

The format goes like this:

Postby Cyamarin » January 22nd, 2003, 12:24 pm

u[universe number]-[firstname]_[lastname]@iwars.org

So if my character name is "John Doe", and I'm in universe 50, my e-mail address is: u50-john_doe@iwars.org .

Note that all names are converted to lowercase letters, and the e-mail addresses in SquirrelMail are case-sensitive.

Of course if you've met the Starlords, they will automatically be entered in your address book.

So, it is only those Starlords whom you haven't met, whom, perhaps, you've only heard of, for whom you will have to deduce addresses.

Have you found the address book? Or are you asking hypothetically, before you get to that stage?

Let us know if you have a problem.

Is it legit to communicate with Starlords whom you haven't met?
Purely hypothetical question, of course... (whistles tunelessly and looks innocent)

I would say if you know, or can work out the email address for them, then you can communicate.
After all, you may not have physically met, or have been formally introduced, but you may have intercepted stray transmissions from somewhere, giving you their name and location. Or stolen it from another StarLord via your intelligence section:D
The forums constitute a galatic broadcast transmission, so if a player includes contact details, you can use them in game.

If the Devs disagree with this, I'm sure they'll let us know:D

We believe the Imperial Wars universe should function like the "real" universe. Certain laws are immutable ( a fleet with a cruiser can move three hops). Whatever can be done within the constraints of those immutable laws... well, we wouldn't presume to impose a set of arbitrary laws that would, in any way, attempt to supecede universal law.

The only caveat being, abusive behavior, of course.

Unless we can ,somehow, incorporate Rhialto's 10,000 volt user interface. Finding the playtesters may be a problem. Although I think Gray might sign up for another game. :D

Any progress on that notification? I have 'met' an active player who makes no response to my e-mail attempts to contact.
Could the 'Notice of Turn' include a reminder to check for email messages? It's a pity to lose a chance to enjoy the 'negotiation' part of the game.

The Problem is also that they may just not want to communicate. Some players just like the lone wolf approach.

You could always take my approach when normal communication doesn't appear to be working; fire off a few salvos at defenceless freighters/scouts or lay waste to one of his/her minor planets, from orbit :D
Ever wondered how a US soldier explains to an Iraqi detainee that they are about to undergo a strip search? Till now, we assumed they cracked open a beer and produced their camera, but it turns out the method is way more sophisticated.
